Hussong’s Cantina

Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada.

If you’d like to visit a famous historical landmark while enjoying the lively side of Ensenada, then try Hussong’s Cantina. It’s been in business for 119 years (as of 2011). It is also the cantina (so one legend says) where the famous Margarita drink was created in October, 1941 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco, for Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German Ambassador to Mexico. The margarita is a perfect combination of tequila, damiana and lime, in a glass that is rimmed with salt.

Hussong’s Cantina can get crowded on weekend evenings as it’s a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.

Not only is Hussong’s Cantina the oldest cantina in Baja Norte, but recently, the oldest cantina in Mexico (Cantina El Nivel) closed its door, making Hussong’s THE oldest bar in all of Mexico.

Hussongs is located on Ruiz Avenue between Lopez Mateos Avenue (the main tourist street) and Calle Segunda.
